So to kick off the start of Summer, I am sharing with you how to do a bronzed make up look. This is the perfect look for the warmer weather, and will give you that beach babe glow in no time!
First off, NZ Summer is a bit slow on the uptake, so I suggest trying out some fake tan first to get the best effect from this look. My absolute favourite tan is Little Honey Flawless Bronzing Kit- its luxurious, streak free, and doesn’t transfer onto your clothes.
Next, follow the Flawless Skin routine (if you haven’t mastered that yet, check out the blog post here).
For the bronzing bit, I always use a matte bronzer- not too shimmery or you could end up looking like a disco ball (not ideal). Take a big fluffy brush and buff a sheer layer of bronzer around the edges of the face, down the neck if it’s pale and up under the cheekbones. To get this placement right, you want to feel your cheekbone from your ear to your cheek, then go back along pressing up under it. This is where you want to softly add some definition with your brush. Dust any excess off and do little circles (don’t do this if you have a little narrow brush, it MUST be big and soft) from your ear to halfway down your cheek pressing up and under that cheekbone with it as you go. You’ll know you have the right angle if the handle of the brush will be almost pointing towards the ground. Use a good amount of pressure or you will be placing product on your face but the brush won’t be doing any blending.
Meags’ application tip: Make sure you are using a good amount of pressure when applying the bronzer to your face. If you don’t, you will just be placing product on your face, rather than getting the brush to blend. This is super important, I feel like most people don’t apply enough pressure when using their makeup brushes, you needa be getting all up in there ok?
The matte bronzers that I love are - Bobbi Brown Golden Light Bronzer, Too Faced Chocolate Soleil and Nars Laguna Bronzer. Bronzing brushes I recommend are XO beauty Bronzing Brush (cheaper option) or Bobbi Brown Bronzer brush (super high quality and will last a lifetime).
Next use a golden highlighter (I have just bout the Bobbi Brown Copper Diamond Shimmer brick which is amaze) on top of the cheekbone. I like to put the highlighter over the entire cheek/cheekbone- I feel like it helps blend everything together. But, this depends on how much highlight you prefer. Also, I probably wouldn’t use a blush with this look. If you love blush, though, you could put a touch more of your matte bronzer on the cheeks instead.
To finish off: eyes. For this look, I layered two different hues of bronze to add more depth. First, I used the Bobbi Brown cream eye shadow in ‘Beach Bronze’ all over the mobile lid (the bit that covers your eye ball) and blended out the edges. Then I patted on (using finger or a brush) a brighter bronze colour over top - I used the colour Chopper from the Naked 2 palette. I also used the eyeshadows on the lower lash line. For a fresher look you could skip this step- just make sure you have done your concealing under there. Add a tiny bit of the cheek highlighter on the inner corner of your eye and take it slightly onto the side of the nose, dust the tip of your nose and the cupid’s bow on your top lip. Just make sure to groom your brows, add a nude lipstick or gloss, and you’re done!
